The first thing my 3 (almost 4….whew…where did time go!?) year old wants to do on these hot summer mornings is, …..you guessed it – GO OUTSIDE! Actually EATING breakfast is a no-go for him, therefore momma has GOT to come up with something filling & healthy that he can drink on the go!
Enter: this delicious Strawberry-Banana Yogurt Smoothie!
Every single ingredient that I used in this smoothie recipe came from Aldi. If you have never shopped at Aldi, go check it out! https://www.aldi.us/
I am always impressed by the prices and the organic selections! Where are my other Aldi fans at?! It’s seriously perfect for basic organic items at a really great price and sometimes they really surprise me by having fun, new organic items, too! You know what I’m talking about…..those certain items we LOVE to find at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods!!
This is the Peanut Butter that I buy. If you’re trying to buy healthier, “better-for-you” foods – start with switching out your Peanut Butter! The ONLY ingredients in this PB is Peanuts & Sea Salt. Take a peak at a regular jar of peanut butter and check out all the unnecessary added ingredients! As a result of doing a simple switch, you’ll be saving yourself tons of added sugar and unhealthy ingredients!
And this is the honey! While I absolutely prefer local raw honey (because it’s fun to find locally sourced healthy items 🙂 ), I do pick up this honey from time to time! Why organic/raw honey? Not all honey is created equal. Most honey that is sold in grocery stores is stripped of bee pollen which is the healthy, nourishing part of honey. Bee pollen is loaded with protein that is combined with amino acids. Unfortunately, if the honey is not raw, all the health benefits of honey are gone because the bee pollen is gone. Therefore, you’re wasting your money and not actually buying anything healthy. There’s your random tip for the day! When choosing honey, be sure it is raw and 100% pure, from a trusted source!
So, by doing a few simple switches (like your choice of PB & Honey), you can start creating smoothie recipes that are better for you, have less sugar, and are packed with vitamins & nutrients! (Perfect for busy summer days when your kids don’t want to eat!!) And it sets you up for healthier and happier kids!
Personally, I absolutely love making smoothies due to the fact that they are so versatile and don’t include any real “rules”! Therefore, you can basically add anything you want in the quantity that you want, based upon what your taste-buds and texture-buds prefer! (Texture-buds….. that’s a thing right?!) I do follow a simple process though…just to get the most out of my smoothie! The process is below!
I always include these 7 things! (I gave examples of my normal go-to’s for each! Although, I didn’t do veggies for this recipe.)
- Liquid base – Organic milk, almond milk, coffee, coconut milk, coconut water, water.
- Veggies – Spinach, Kale.
- Fruit – Bananas, Mango, Pineapple, Strawberries, Blueberries, Apples, Oranges.
- Healthy Fat – Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, Coconut Oil, Avocado,
- Thickener – Greek Yogurt, Chia Seeds, Protein Powder, Oats
- Flavoring – Pure Lime Juice, Pure Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon, Honey, Cacao Powder.
- Ice – Depending on the texture I want & if I used frozen fruit or not!
This healthy Strawberry-Banana Yogurt Smoothie recipe is definitely in our top breakfast favorites!!
